Växter/PlantsPosted by Gunvor 2011-09-14 12:47:18

Krasse is ‘Nasturtium’, borrowed from Low German, karse (modern German Kresse), of unknown origin.

Latin Nasturtium is funnier: nasus = ‘nose’, torquere = ‘to turn around’. The Romans named the plant after the strong smell of the leaves that pained, ‘turned around’ the nose when they ground them (From Jens Corneliusson: Växternas namn).
